Entry is as follows: adults £4, concessions and children 16-10 £2, under 10′s free of charge. Our traditional charity raffle and auction will take place in the Arthurlie Social Club after the game.

The game is all about raising as much money as we can for the charities we have chosen. This year’s causes can be viewed on the charities page.

Last year we donated to St Vincent’s Hospice in Paisley, The Kangaroo Club in Linwood, Revive MS Support in Maryhill, and Haven in Blantyre. A total of £3000 was handed over to the four groups. We hope with your support we will top that this year and make a difference.

We have the privilege of announcing that Mr Kenny Clark will officiate at this year’s game without a fee, which is a fantastic gesture from a top-class and world renowned ex-senior referee. Kenny will be assisted by Graham Vance and Thomas Stewart, who have also agreed to give their services free of charge.

We also have apologies for this year from players unable to make the game. Jim Murphy MP is regrettably unable to attend in what would have been his fourth Legends match. Another consistent player unable to attend this year is Mr Tommy Sheridan, who has been a great supporter of the match from day one.

The idea of staging the game saw a huge interest, thus we decided to make it charity-based. The winning team will receive the Eric Hickey Shield in memory of one of Barrhead’s finest businessmen who was loved by all. In addition, we now have the John Murphy Man of the Match Award which is presented to the standout player by John’s daughter Lynne.

Last year we introduced a new award which is dedicated to one of the best players to come out of Barrhead, Tommy Sloan. The Tommy Sloan Sportsman’s Award is chosen by the members of Mr Sloan’s family for the player who does something special on the day.

The Scottish Football Museum has announced the results of a nine month reminiscence pilot project, which used digitised photographs and other pictures from their collection with older men who have dementia. The pilot found that football reminiscence could help improve their wellbeing by increasing their self-confidence, making them feel more comfortable in a group and giving them a sense of enjoyment. They worked in partnership with Alzheimer Scotland , Culture and Sport Glasgow, The Scottish Library and Information Council, Glasgow Caledonian University and a number of football clubs to carry out and evaluate the pilot project.

Alzheimer Scotland wants to build on the impressive results of the pilot by taking over the short term funding of the project; working in partnership with the team to ensure that enough support is secured to roll this initiative out across Scotland .

We will start off by recruiting a team of volunteers, training them in football reminiscence and connecting them to people with dementia. Volunteers will have links to staff at the football museum and to historians at local clubs. We will use the resources of the Scottish Football Museum , and local clubs, to build on the excellent work that has already been done.

There are thousands of football fans across the country with dementia, who have stood on terraces from Pittodrie to Palmerston Park and felt the joy and the pain that football brings. They have burned with the passion that Scottish supporters are famous for. These are special memories and football has a language that transcends all cultures and, I think, dementia too.

Barrhead Scout Hall Roof

1st Barrhead Scout Group has been running for over 100 years and for the last 40 or so have been using their purpose buillt hall in Arthurlie Street. Due to lack of funding the hall has fallen into disrepair and now needs its roof re-felted and many other jobs done due to water ingress.

The hall has been a facility used by many groups from a day nursery to boys club, childrens parties to fantastic discos in the 80′s.

It would be a great loss to the local community if the hall does not get repaired.

St Vincent’s Hospice

Set in a tranquil location on the outskirts of Howwood, Renfrewshire, St Vincent’s is a non-denominational hospice, providing specialist palliative care and support for people throughout Renfrewshire.

St Vincent’s is open to all who have been diagnosed with a life-limiting illness, including cancer, motor neurone disease and other progressive conditions, and have specialist palliative care needs. 

 We see many more people in the community and other settings than we do at the Unit: caring for the family as well as the patient is one of our main aims and we offer home respite, and brief arranged admission to provide breaks for carers.

The Haven is a drop in centre supporting families and carers with
cancer, Multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease and Parkinson’s. With
over 30  support services available clients can drop in without a
medical referral. Patients, carers, families and friends can receive
advice, information and support, in a relaxed and welcoming environment,
to help them cope with the physical, mental and spiritual effects of
illness. All support services at The Haven are free and totally
confidential.
